On November 29, 1975, President Gerald Ford signed into law PL 94-142, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act, which was later renamed IDEA in 1990. The law has been revised several times, with the continued premise of mandating a Free Appropriate Public Education for students with disabilities in the Least Restrictive Environment.
